The Four Horsemen

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are described in the Book of Revelation. The horsemen represent the perils that will befall humanity during the last days; they are seen as symbolizing Conquest, War, Famine, and Death. These paintings represent the warnings of the Four Horsemen.

Conquest, a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
Death, its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him and they were given power over a fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword and with famine.
Famine, its rider had a balance in his hand and I heard a voice saying, ‘A quart of wheat for a days work.’
War, its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that men should slay one another and he was given a great sword.
